Instructional Design Tips (#25)

Knowledge is not power without action.

I’m a fan of Cathy Moore, who is all about action. I try to focus on what learners need to do, in their jobs, in their lives… outside of the training. Whether it’s making a decision or clicking a button, my learning products focus on what the learner needs to do. Then I support them with what they need to know.

My instructional design tip poster is a take on this Tony Robbins quote: “The path to success is to take massive determined action.”

But to make this realistic in my life, I take small actions and make them habits. To make a new habit, key the new habit off an old habit. Once it’s in place, make the action bigger. Bit by bit, the habit becomes part of who you are and you reach your goal. Start small. Take action.

Most of us know what we need to do. Action is the hard part. Building the action into a habit makes it easier.

Knowledge is not power without action.

(There’s no interactivity here, folks. It’s just an image.)
